For children, young people and families
My Life and Co is committed to the principles of social justice and recognises the vital importance of culturally safe mental health support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands, skies, and waterways across Australia. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded, and we pay our deepest respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.
We are dedicated to supporting families to remain connected to culture, community.
It always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
At My Life and Co, we believe that every child and young person deserves the chance to thrive, exactly as they are. We create a warm, safe, and nurturing space where children can express their deep thoughts and emotions through play, using toys and creative activities instead of relying solely on words.
Our mission is to work therapeutically with children, young people, and their families in Ballarat and surrounding areas to nurture emotional development and support whole-life wellbeing. We specialise in a holistic, child-centred approach that is developmentally informed, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and neuroaffirming. We specialise in supporting children who have experienced trauma or adversity, those living with ADHD and autism, or experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties.
We value the power of the therapeutic relationship and collaborate with parents, carers, and families so they feel supported and equipped too. Together, we help children build resilience, connection, and confidence, so they and their families can live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives.
Play therapy is a well-researched and highly effective form of child therapy. It gives children a safe, nurturing space to express themselves and make sense of their world.
Because many children find it difficult to put their feelings into words, play becomes their natural language. Through toys, art, and imaginative play, they can explore, process, and understand their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a way that feels comfortable and safe.
This approach allows us to gain a deeper insight into a child’s inner world while supporting their mental health. It helps them build confidence, develop emotional understanding, and work through challenges at their own pace.
Research shows that play therapy can significantly reduce childhood difficulties such as anxiety, impulsivity, depression, school avoidance, academic struggles, and social challenges.
We welcome referrals from Child Protection, The Orange Door, Community Services, Paediatricians, GPs, Educators, and self-referrals or private referrals. We accept NDIS plan-managed and self-managed funding.
Please note that Medicare rebates are not currently available for play therapy sessions.
